Subject: Project Ike

Hello Everyone,

We have recently started a video series called Project Ike with Ike of Ikesoutdoors.com.  Ike is struggling with some form issues as well as a bad case of target panic.  I have offered to create the video series that both members & non-members of Archery Lessons Online can view.  Everyone can tag along as we take a look at Ike's form & over the video series we will transform him into the shooter he wants to be!

Please feel free to comment on the video series & provide your feedback!!

-Adam

Teaser Image Mathews (Single Cam) Specific Setup & Timing
The Mathews single cam system has been around for quite some time. There are many different types of cams for different Mathews bow models, however the way you configure & time them will remain consistent. In order to understand how to approach making changes to the configuration of your bow, you should be very familiar with exactly what function each component serves....

Teaser Image "Mathews Triumph" Single Cam draw stop.
One of the most important aspects associated with long range accuracy is a consistant draw length & anchor location. When your bow has "sponge" in the back wall, there is a tendancy for your draw length to fluctuate slightly. When executing your shots with back tension, ideally you want as solid of a wall as possible with no slop or play. "Back in the day", before the evolution of cam eccentrics, bows were shot from the "valley". This is no longer the case....

Lesson 2 Setting Goals
I was recently asked a great question by one of my students that is shooting a lot of indoor right now. He wanted to know “what is a good number to set as a goal for my indoor score?” He mentioned that he was hoping for something in the 300 55X range, and wanted to know if that was an appropriate goal to set for himself. He mentioned that this goal was 1 X higher than his personal best score. I think my response completely skirted around answering his question directly, and it....

Teaser Image Lesson 5 Balancing your bow
Stabilizers are often fundamentally misunderstood as a tool for simply absorbing the shock of the shot as the bow fires. Shock absorption is nice to have, but it is not the main purpose for a stabilizer by any means. Balance is the key factor associated with the use of a stabilizer & the key value added from the use of a stabilizer is the ability to more easily achieve a stable sight picture and reduce missed shots. Stabilization as a whole can be broken into 2 areas…

Teaser Image Lesson 3.2 Setting up your bow (Nock point & D-loop)
Positioning your nock point - Assuming that you have your arrow rests centershot & height configured, it is time to determine your upper & lower nock point positions. **Any timing or draw length adjustments made after the nock point has been installed may require that the nock point position be adjusted.

Teaser Image Lesson 3.1 Setting up your bow (Arrow rest Position)
Positioning your arrow rest - The position of your arrow rest is relative on two planes. The height of the rest in relation to the arrow rest mounting hole or (burger button hole), and the distance from the riser or (Center shot).

Teaser Image Lesson 6 Draw Length
1st step in determining draw length is going to be to separate the front half from the back half… essentially we need to take anchor out of the picture for now. You need to focus on the distance between your bow arm & the corner of your mouth. Here is how we will break that relationship down…

Teaser Image Lesson 4.2 Configuring your trigger release for proper shot execution (Trigger Pressure)
Let’s talk about the different designs as well as the method used to adjust the trigger pressure for each. You will use these techniques to setup your release so that you will be properly prepared to apply the advanced techniques we will discussing in later chapters. There are several types of trigger sears including single & double sear...

Teaser Image Lesson 5 Anchor
Other than your actual grip on the bow, this is going to prove to be the most important aspect of your overall form. We are going to pay particular attention to the details of all the separate aspects of your anchor. First off, we want to establish a solid bone to bone contact point...

Teaser Image Lesson 4.1 Configuring your trigger release for proper shot execution (Trigger Travel)
Before you do anything else, we need to make sure that any trigger travel that your release has out of the box is properly adjusted out. This is the simplest of procedures as far as release aid tweaking is concerned, however it is the most often overlooked aspect of a properly tuned release aid...

Teaser Image Lesson 1 Stance
Bow Arm in relation to your shoulders What most archers do not realize is that your stance determines the angle of your bow arm in relation to your shoulders. Most people think of stance as a simple placement of the feet, however there is a much bigger dynamic involved that you can use to your advantage if you have the right information.

Lesson 2 Blank bail vs. Close distance target face
You will hear a lot of talk about shooting at a blank bail to improve your shooting skills, or even to help you get over a bad case of target panic. Blank bale shooting does have it’s uses, but you need to be careful to leverage it the correct way. The over use of blank bale shooting can cause severely damaging effects. Practicing on a target face at close distance is a completely different tool that is much more versatile & useful. We are going to talk about...

Teaser Image Lesson 2 Push Pull shot exectution
You will hear the term (Back Tension) tossed around quite a bit by archers discussing or attempting to explain the use of your back muscles as part of your shot execution. This term is quite often over used, misused, and misunderstood as it applies to shot execution. Put quite simply...
