General:
My introduction to archery came in 1984 when I was 15 years old. I read an article in a hunting magazine by Dwight Schuh about hunting elk with a bow. After reading that article all I could think about was archery. I’d never shot a bow, but I knew it was for me. For my 16th birthday my dad got me a used compound.
I taught myself to shoot and later that year ran into a guy shooting a recurve. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world and traded the compound straight across for a new Damon Howatt recurve. The die was cast and I spent the next 24 years shooting recurves and longbows.
In 2008 I got my first Elk. An 8 yard shot on a 5pt in Idaho.
Reflecting back on almost a quarter century of flinging arrows I decided to take my archery in a different direction and try compounds. In October 2008 I picked up an Elite GT500 and fell in love with archery again. I started shooting any competition I could find locally and have developed a passion for shooting outside of pure hunting practice.
I’m a fanatic for pursuits that challenge me. I use the analogy that it takes a harder material to shape the product being worked on. Consider hardened steel, you can’t shape a hardened steel blade with a sponge… you need the right stone. Archery is my stone.
Goals:
Right now, everything for me is centered on Redding in late April. It will be the first time I’ve attended that shoot.
My goal for that shoot is to execute 140 single tournaments delivering my best arrow on every shot. After that, my position relative to everyone else is irrelevant, but I figure that would put me into the 1500’s … J
