Lesson 4  Learning the back tie serving process & (Serving in your peep)

One of the most important techniques associated with proper equipment setup is the Back Tie Process. This is a basic process that will allow you to secure just about anything you need to your bowstring or cables without knots. You can create a section of protective serving for a string stopper, serve in your peep using only 1 piece of material, or tie in the drop away cord for your drop away rest. The process is simple enough but surprisingly many archers are not savvy with the technique. We have created videos covering the basic back tie method along with the process for tying in your peep. Rather than doing a step by step with pictures, we went straight for the video on this one. We have covered all of the information you need to know about these processes in 2 separate close up videos which you can watch over & over until you are able to duplicate the process.

Some important things to remember about the back tie process.

1.      ALWAYS serve in the direction of the string twists! If you fail to do this when serving in your peep, you will chase peep rotation to no avail.
2.      If your string is rotating clockwise, start on the top of the string with the shorter piece of material in your left hand.
3.      If your string is rotating counter clockwise (most common), start on the back of the string with the shorter piece of material in your left hand.
4.      Always cut off more material than you think you need.
5.      Leave the pigtail long enough so that you are able to get a good grip on it in order to tighten up the back tie.

**If you are Left handed, do everything opposite of what is listed above. The shorter piece of material should be in your right hand, and you should start on the opposite sides of the string.

Serving in Your Peep –

This video covers the proper process for serving in your peep sight with a single piece of serving material. This method is recommended over the method that is often used which uses two separate pieces of material above & below the peep.
